On 22 August 2018 the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Vanuatu Police Force (VPF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the VPF Headquarters in Port Vila.

Speaking shortly before the official signing, both Commissioner Matthew Varley and Commissioner Albert Nalpini reflected on the importance of the relationship between the two police organisations, and welcomed the signing as a commitment to work together more closely, not just for operational outcomes or information sharing, but also in supporting each other in areas of capability building.

Also present during the signing, PICP Secretariat Executive Director Carl McLennan congratulated both Commissioners on this tangible demonstration of Pacific regionalism, a topic that had been part of presentations and discussions during the 47th Annual PICP Conference in Nauru the week before.

The signing of this MOU was the third such agreement the RSIPF had embarked on, having recently signed similar MOU’s with neighbours in PNG and Australia.
