The 2018 Pacific Aviation Forum took place in Niue on 25 to 28 September 2018.  The Forum theme was ‘For the Pacific, By the Pacific’ and was hosted and Chaired by Niue Police Chief Tony Edwards. The participants included aviation representatives from Niue, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.  Also in attendance was the PICP Secretariat (Glyn Rowland), representatives from Australia and the General Manager of Aviation Security NZ (AVSEC), Mr Mark Wheeler.  The Forum has been led and supported by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority.

Delegates had the opportunity to showcase and hear about recent developments in the Aviation Sector across the Pacific and to discuss areas of joint interest and support.  This included the Transnational Crime Units (TCU) and the opportunities for the Sector to engage and work more closely with the TCU’s to contribute intelligence and information.  There was also discussion on training and technological developments and some practical solutions which can be applied in a Pacific environment.  The next Forum meeting will take place in 2019 in Samoa.
