History

The Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) was founded as the South Pacific Chiefs of Police Conference (SPCPC) in 1970, when representatives of seven Pacific Island countries met in Fiji. The organisation has grown over time, both in its scope and number of members, and was renamed the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP) in 2005 to reflect this wider role.

The membership includes police services from all Pacific Island Forum (PIF) countries – Australia, Cook Islands, FSM, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Niue, Palau, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu – as well as the three Pacific US territories of Gaum, American Samoa and CNMI. It is the only forum that brings Pacific Chiefs of Police together for strategic discussions on issues impacting Pacific regional policing.
